Make the most of your visit to the Palais de la Cité by visiting 2 remarkable monuments: Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie. During your visit to the Conciergerie, explore the ancient court of the French Revolution. At this picturesque site, see the cells of criminals and the tombs of the heroes of the French Revolution. See the cell where Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned, among other famous prisoners during this time.  Just a few steps away is the 13th-century Sainte-Chapelle, a French Gothic chapel that has recently been restored. Your ticket also gives you access to this monument, which features more than 1,000 scenes from the Old and New Testaments.  Both monuments are yours to explore independently after your express entry, and you can visit them in any order you choose.

Sainte-Chapelle, this newly restored and intimate chapel from the 13th century, is only located a few meters from the Conciergerie. It is a true gem of French Gothic architecture. Arranged across 15 windows, each 15 meters high, the stained glass panes depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world until the arrival of the relics in Paris.

Get to discover first the Conciergerie, located on Île de la Cité. This former Paris seat of Justice is this impressive monument overlooking the river Seine. Being first a Royal Palace and a seat of Justice of the French monarchy, the Conciergerie then became a prison of the Revolutionary Tribunal where Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned until her death.

FEATURED REVIEW(S)

4.6/5 stars – based on 4046 reviews

Sainte-Chapelle is beautiful in ways that cannot be explained. Take time to sit on the chairs provided and just admire the stained glass, ceiling and walls. The Conciergerie was a surprise! Learning all the history of what it was, and how it was used was a pleasant surprise. I am glad we did both.

Absolutely stunning! I’m glad we purchased the timed tickets in advance. A bit tricky in that you must go to the Monuments website to get your timed entry, but well worth the effort.
Pamela – Scotland

Beautiful stained glass and very well maintained older statues in the Chapel. For some reason that I can’t exactly explain, this Chapel seemed to have the most impact for us. Not large at all but really special.
